First announcement
Interstellar Medium in the Nearby Universe
A workshop on interstellar matter, light, and magnetic fields in our Milky Way and nearby galaxies.
March 26 - 28, 2018
The research of the interstellar medium (ISM) has been making significant progress in recent years owing to new observational techniques and to advances in computing powers and methods. We expect even more exciting results from future missions and observatories like JWST, eROSITA, E-ELT, CTA, or SKA. In this workshop we aim to bring researchers together to review and discuss modern topics of ISM research over the entire electromagnetic spectrum, both observational and theoretical, with particular focus on:
- multi-scale structures in the ISM
- supernova remnants and superbubbles
- galactic halos and outflows
- feedback and dynamics in the ISM and their effect on star formation
- magnetic fields and their effect on galaxy evolution
- physics of various types of interstellar shocks
- formation, physics, and impact of interstellar dust
- galactic cosmic rays
- ISM modelling in star forming galaxies
The workshop will take place in the beautiful city of Bamberg in Bavaria, Germany, a UNESCO world-heritage.
