Istanbul 2010 Collaboration Meeting: Social Program PDF Print E-mail

ITN CM Social Program

The social program includes a boat trip, visit to the Legendary Istanbul Exhibition at Sabanci Museum and a dinner at the museum. It will be on Wednesday, 22nd, as opposed to Thursday because only Wednesdays the museum is open until late. To be able to make it in time, we need to leave Karakoy at 17:45 and catch the ferry to Emirgan.

I will get the ferry coins during lunch break to save us time. The entrance to Museum costs 10 TL (5 Euros). The ferry is a few Euros. After dinner, I will provide a shuttle to get you back to Richmond Hotel and Sultanahmet. The dinner will cost around 120TL (60 Euros). I can collect in Euros or in Turkish Lira. I will have one invoice for all and give you copies of it.

If you stay in Sultanahmet area, most of touristic attractions will be walking distance.Sera mentioned “1001 Inventions”, an exhibition about islamic science and achivements in the past. It will be open throughout September at Sultanahmet until late at night! If you want to visit a hammam, please talk to the concierge at your hotels.

For people staying for the weekend, there are some museums that could be of interest. I assume you will see the Blue Mosque and Hagi Sophia since most of you will stay right there. If you are into Palaces, the Topkapi Palace is down the road from Sultanahmet. It was the home of Sultans for a long time. More European like palace is Dolmabahce. Ataturk died there.

There are nice restaurants and shopping possibilities at Istiklal Street (or Beyoglu) that starts from Taksim Square and goes all the way down to Tunel where Richmond Hotel is. The Princess Islands or a longer boat trip at Bosphorus are othre possibilities.

A trip to Ortakoy for lunch, a trip to the Maiden Tower (which I do not find that interesting) from there is a possibility.

The Grand Bazaar is a must see, and some parts of it may be visited even during the lunch break (pass across the Galata Bridge into Eminonu, pass the street and enter Misir Bazaar. The end of Misir Bazar will connect you to the Grand Bazaar)

Plase do some research on your own, talk to your hotel, and do not hesitate to call me if you have any questions.
